What is Paladin?

Paladin is the Rent-a-product place where you can rent and borrow objects of medium to high value.

It’s a marketplace where people connect to lend and borrow just about anything. As a Lender, you can help someone nearby and make some money in the process. As a Borrower, you now have access to a wide range of new items and activities at a fraction of the cost of buying. We also make sure the process is easy and safe.

Use things better

You can list items on Paladin today right from the main menu. Maybe that cool stuff you have in storage (that you rarely use) could really help someone out and make you some money.

You can also get access to lots of things like tools, event equipment, sporting goods, and more for all your sweet activities and projects. Search through listings of items nearby to find what you want to borrow.

How does it work?

Do you have stuff you don’t use? Do you want to have something for a short period of time? All right then!

– List your items lightning-quick with a name, description, category, pictures and pricing. You may have just what your neighbor needs.

– Search listings of items in your neighborhood.

– Message other users with questions and to arrange pickups & drop offs.

– Meet at a prearranged time and place to complete the deal.

What kind of items do people lend and borrow?

Pretty much anything. Really. Need a special tool for work on your car or a pop-up tent for next weekend’s bbq? No longer do you need to buy it… we’re pretty sure your neighbor has one you can borrow. Even if you do buy it, you can list it on Paladin and make some money off of it.

Some of our favorite things to lend and borrow are tools, lawn and garden equipment, electronics, event equipment, clothes – could go on all day, but won’t. As long as it’s legal, reasonable and doesn’t violate our Terms of Service, you can find it on Paladin. For easy reference, here are a few categories of items you will not be able to find on Paladin:

– Weapons or firearms of any kind

– Drugs or drug paraphernalia

– Non-hygienic or sexually explicit items

– Items that are not legally yours

– Items missing standard safety features

– Anything prohibited by local, state, or federal law

Why should I use Paladin?

Some of us forgo unique and exciting opportunities simply because we don’t own the stuff to get it done. Some of us just have a lot of stuff we’re not using very often (we’re not hoarders, we swear). In fact, most of the things you have laying around your house get used less than once a month. Loads of people really want to use that stuff. Paladin is here to unlock access to these items and activities, and in the process, help you save and make money. It’s a beautiful thing.

Wait a minute. Has this been done before?

Indeed…but Paladin has a few not-so-secret weapons that make it significantly better than what you may have seen before:

It’s Safe & Easy: Paladin takes care of the entire payment process, so you don’t have to deal with handing cash over to a stranger – awkward! You also know who you’re dealing with ahead of time through user reviews and the ability to communicate with each other at any time in the process. Lenders are also protected against late returns, loss, and theft, thanks to the virtual deposit.

Borrowing

How do I start borrowing?

Begin looking for items you would like to borrow by starting a search in the Borrow Stuff section of the main menu

Who am I borrowing from?

All your awesome neighbors! Not a random guy from two states away, we promise. The whole process is safe and easy. You have access to user reviews, and payments are handled through Paladin. No awkward conversations or fumbling for change needed. You’re welcome

Where and when will I pick up/drop off the item?

That’s up to you and the Lender. Paladin lets you communicate before, during and after the borrowing period. Set up details in advance, and figure out what’s convenient for both of you. Here are the Top 10 Suggestions to make sure you have the best experience possible:

  1. Check reviews of the other party in advance so you know who you are meeting.
  2. Chat with the lender in advance to better understand who they are and what you will be borrowing. If it is a complex product or you are not an expert user, ask the lender if they can provide a user manual or try to find the manual online.
  3. Also make sure to arrange a specific time and location to meet in advance.
  4. It’s best to meet in a public place.
  5. Also be sure to check that the product is not missing any standard safety features (e.g. guards or protective coverings).
  6. If you are not an expert user of the item, ask the lender for any tips/tricks regarding best use.
  7. Contact the lender if you have any questions about using the item that you did not ask when you first met.
  8. Remember to schedule a specific time and location for the second meetup to drop off the item.
  9. Finally, leave feedback for the lender when the transaction is complete.
  10. Ask for additional picture of the items via the chat

How much does it cost to borrow something?

The Lender sets the price. So make sure you’re getting a good deal. Then there are no cost for you – so no shady exchange of cash on the corner. This makes everything safe and secure.

Note that extra charges will apply if the borrowed item is not returned on-time or not returned at all. See What if I lend something but didn’t get it back in time or back at all? for more details.

We know you won’t have to worry about that, but this is an important policy to have in place to keep all Lenders protected and willing to add even more items to Paldin.

When do I get charged for the item I’m borrowing?

After the renting period when you will meet again the owner the payment will take place from your credit card

What are the service fees?

Paladin Service it’s completely free, the lender will only pay 1,4%+0,25€ that is the credit card fee for the transaction. Paladin is a completely free service

What is deposit value and why is it important to a borrower?

Deposit value is extremely important. This is what a lender declares to be the value of the item …pretty straight-forward so far. It is not necessarily what they bought it for; instead it should be current fair market value. It is used primarily to help the Lender with recommended pricing and to determine the maximum cost in case of loss or damage of the product. Also, if a borrowed item is not returned to the Lender, then the declared value minus what has already been paid to borrow the item is what the Borrower is held accountable for (as well as the related service fee). As a Borrower, take note of an item’s declared value. It’s best to borrow from a Lender with a reasonable declared value for their item

What if the Lender doesn’t show up to hand off the item?

Try contacting the Lender to get the issue sorted out. You can get in touch with them at any time through your bub notifications.

No response? Paladin to the rescue.

What is the right price per day of my product?

Here at Paladin we have different methods to suggest you the perfect price per day!

The easiest way to find the price per day of your products is to start at 5% of the value of the items. Let’s do an example:

You paid your bike 100€, we suggest you to rent it with a 5€ per day …fair enough for you to earn money and for the person that is taking it from you 😉

Easy, right?

But we know that not all products are the same so here are a few suggestions that can help you in giving the right value to the items

—————————————————————————————————————-

Category: Hi-tech

E.g. Photocamera:

How old is it? 2 years

How much did you pay for it? 400€

What is the actual value in a shop or on Ebay? 200€

We suggest you to insert as a deposit 240€ (actual value + 20%) and as a price per day 24€  per day (10% of the deposit)

—————————————————————————————————————-

Category: Sport

Snowboard

What is the condition of your products? I used it a few times .

How much did you pay for it? 300€

What is the actual value in a shop? 220€

We suggest you to insert as deposit 220€ and as a price per day 15€

—————————————————————————————————————-

Category: Clothes

Which kind of clothes is it? Vintage?

Actual value on the market?

How much did you paid for it?

You are not able to decide the right price? Contact us and we will be happy to help you 🙂

Lending

How do I start lending?

You can start listing your stuff by clicking on List Items in the main menu.

Why would I want to start lending?

By lending items, you help a neighbor in need and make money in the process.

How many people see my listings?

That depends on how many Paladin users are nearby.

What kinds of items can I lend?

Pretty much anything. Really. Take a look around your house. See that stuff you rarely use? It only takes about a minute to list an item. In about a half hour, you’ll have 30 items working for you (math!). As long as it’s legal, reasonable and doesn’t violate our Terms of Service, you can put it on Paladin. For easy reference, here are a few categories of items you will not be able to insert:

– Weapons or firearms of any kind

– Drugs or drug paraphernalia

– Non-hygienic or sexually explicit items

– Items that are not legally yours

– Items missing standard safety features

– Anything prohibited by local, state, or federal law

Who am I lending to?

Awesome people nearby! Not a random guy from two states away, we promise. The whole process is safe and easy. You have access to user reviews and can communicate with the other party at any time, so you know who you’re dealing with in advance.

Where and when will I drop off/pick up the item?

That’s up to you and the Borrower. Paladin lets you communicate before, during and after the borrowing period. Set up details in advance, and figure out what’s convenient for both of you.

Here are the Top 10 Suggestions to make sure you have the best experience possible:

  1. Check reviews of the other party in advance so you know who you are meeting.
  2. Chat with the borrower in advance to better understand who they are and what they will be using the item for.
  3. Also make sure to arrange a specific time and location to meet in advance.
  4. It’s best to meet in a public place.
  5. It’s best to provide the user manual with any items you lend or help the borrower find it online, where applicable.
  6. Be sure to check that the product is not missing any standard safety features (e.g. guards or protective coverings) before lending.
  7. When you meet the borrower, let them know if there are any tips/tricks for the safest and best use of the item.
  8. During the lending period, check notifications in case the borrower has any questions about using the item.
  9. Remember to schedule a specific time and location for the second meetup to pick up the item.
  10. Finally, leave feedback for the borrower when the transaction is complete.

How much can I make lending something?

That’s up to you. You set the price for your stuff. You decide how many things to list. You decide how much you want to share your listings. You invite as many people as you want to. You rule the world.

What about sales tax?

It is the sole responsibility of the lender to determine whether any state and local sales and use tax may be applicable to a Paladin transaction. The lender also has the obligation to remit any applicable state and local sales and use tax collected from the borrower to the proper taxing jurisdiction.

When do I get paid?

Few days after the rental period in your bank account through the IBAN you gave to Stripe

What are the service fees?

You will pay only 1,4%+0,25€ for each rental done at the end of the rental period when the payment is sent to your bank account. These are not Paladin fees but credit card fees for the transaction – Paladin is free for the users. This fee help us and you to have a completely safe payment process

What is deposit value?

Deposit value is extremely important. If you are a Lender, this is what you declare to be the value of the item you are listing…pretty straight-forward so far. It is not necessarily what you bought it for; instead it should be closer to its current fair market value. It is important to be as accurate as possible, because the declared value becomes your item’s level of coverage if it qualifies for equipment rental insurance. Remember that the declared value you set for your item determines the minimum pricing required in order to qualify for coverage.

Also, if a Borrower loses or just never returns your item, the declared value is the amount they are held accountable for (as well as the service fee).

As a Borrower, take note of an item’s declared value. It’s best to borrow from a Lender with a reasonable declared value for their item.

As a Lender, it is very important for all of the above reasons, to make your items’ declared values as close to actual fair market value as possible.

Troubleshooting

What if no one responds to my chat requests?

Boo! We’re doing everything we can right now to prevent that. There are some exciting new features coming very soon that will help address this. Stay tuned. In the meantime, we’re spreading the word about Paladin so more and more people continue to join, and you should, too. The more people you invite, the better your odds of finding just what you’re looking for. And may the odds be ever in your favor.

What if I get an inappropriate message?

We’ll put a stop to it. Contact Us through email at info@paladintrue.com

What if I lend something but don’t get it back in time or back at all?

We always recommend contacting the Borrower first. You can get in touch with them at any time through your Paladin chat section. If the initial outreach does not resolve the problem, try to contact the user via the chat, if nothing happens and you are not able to resolve it with the Borrower within a reasonable amount of time you can click on Keep the deposit so the entire deposit you entered in the product page will be paid to you .

Remember, reviews are gold in this community, so use them to help other people avoid the same situation.

What if the Lender/Borrower doesn’t show up to hand off the item?

Try contacting the other user to get the issue sorted out. You can get in touch with them at any time through your Paladin notifications.

If the Borrower doesn’t show up to pick up the item at the beginning of the borrowing period, their payment is processed as normal. Again, it’s best to try contacting the Borrower to make sure you both have the details right.

If the Lender doesn’t show up to deliver the item at the beginning of the borrowing period, try getting in touch with them. No response? Paladin to the rescue. Contact us at info@paladintrue.com
